Education hall selects banker

A Lawrence bank executive and community leader will be among five people who will be inducted next month into the Mid-America Education Hall of Fame at Kansas City Kansas Community College.

Barbara Carswell, first vice president of Capitol Federal Savings Bank in Topeka, will be honored in ceremonies Nov. 4 for her work in creating learning experiences for more then 120 employees in 19 of the bank’s branches in Lawrence, Topeka, Manhattan and Kansas City.

Carswell is chairwoman of the board of trustees for the Housing Trust Fund of Lawrence and has been active in home-buyer education initiatives in the community for more than a decade.

Her statewide involvement has included leading the Leadership Kansas program and serving as business-education partnership liaison for the Kansas State Board of Education.

Locally, Carswell serves on the board of trustees of the Douglas County Community Foundation and the advisory board of Kaw Valley Girl Scouts and has longtime involvement with the United Way of Douglas County.
