Brahler, Konzem qualify for state

? Free State High’s Grace Brahler and Sally Konzem have qualified for the Class 5A-6A state golf tournament.

Brahler, a freshman, placed seventh at the Class 5A-6A regional tournament Tuesday at Cypress Ridge Golf Course with a score of 97.

Konzem, a senior, shot 101.

The Firebirds placed fifth and Lawrence High sixth in the six-team event.

“These are our first state qualifiers in three years so we’re really pleased about that,” Free State coach Craig Hershiser said. “Most of the scores with the exception of the first-place medalist (Adin Stromgren, Washburn Rural, 70) were inflated I think due to weather conditions. The kids did a nice job grinding it out and accepting the conditions.”

Katy Hoffman (111), Weatherly Butler (114) and Kelly Morris (124) rounded out the Free State scoring

Samantha Hays led Lawrence High with a 108, followed by Katie Grom (110), Kalli McClure (121), Libby Queen (121), Kristen Ohlimeier (132) and Courtney Kincaid (149).

Washburn Rural finished first with 355 points, followed by Shawnee Heights (383), Seaman (426), Topeka West (429), FSHS (446) and LHS (460).

The Class 5A-6A state tournament is scheduled for Monday at Manhattan Country Club in Manhattan.
