Man flown to hospital after shooting

A man shot himself in the leg and bled for nearly three hours before rescue workers found him Monday along the Kansas River in Leavenworth County.

Leonard Ayres, a Leavenworth County spokesman, said that Jeffrey B. Maloney, 50, accidentally shot himself near North 1500 Road close to the Kansas River when his gun jammed during target practice.

When rescue workers arrived, he had made an tourniquet but had been bleeding for nearly three hours, Ayres said.

He was flown by air ambulance to Kansas University Hospital in Kansas City, Kan.
