Hy-Vee gives $5,000 to Hillcrest School
For the second time in less than a month, a Lawrence elementary school is reaping financial benefits from a program sponsored by Hy-Vee.
And another student has $1,000 to spend at CompUSA.
Hillcrest School is the latest to receive $5,000 through Hy-Vee’s “Smiles for Education” program, a regional contest sponsored by the Iowa-based grocer.
Shawn Brown, store director for Hy-Vee at 4000 W. Sixth St., presented Hillcrest’s check this week during an all-school assembly, which included two representatives from Sara Lee Foods.
Michaeleene Kesinger, a Hillcrest second-grader whose name was entered into the random drawing by her stepmother, Lori Kesinger, received a $1,000 gift card from CompUSA.
Last month, Deerfield School received $5,000 through the program, and sixth-grader Chase Kopf received a $1,000 CompUSA gift card.
Companywide, this year’s program will be expected to give $500,000 to schools in communities that have Hy-Vee stores.
