Journal-World wins editorial page award

October 6, 2006

Lawrence Journal-World editorial page editor Ann Gardner has won the Inland Press Assn.'s 2006 first-place award for Editorial Excellence.

The award was sponsored by Kansas University.

The judges wrote: "The opinions are well-written and exhibit a strong voice, with reasoned, well-researched arguments. Rarely, if ever, is there a question left to be asked by the reader."

The Journal-World's sister newspaper the Payson (Ariz.) Roundup also was honored Thursday. The Roundup, which is owned by WorldWest Limited Liability Company, finished second in the Editorial Excellence category in its class.

Last month, Inland announced that Journal-World photographer Mike Yoder won third place for portrait photography.

The awards will be presented Oct. 16 in Chicago.
