Police rescue man hanging from bridge

A man dangling by one arm from the Kansas River bridge was rescued Wednesday by Lawrence Police.

About noon, police received a call of a possible suicide attempt on the bridge. An officer arrived and found a man hanging by one arm from the east side of the bridge, said Kim Murphree, a department spokeswoman. The man’s bicycle was on a nearby sidewalk.

An officer grabbed the man’s arm and held on until other officers arrived to assist. The man eventually was pulled back onto the sidewalk and taken to Lawrence Memorial Hospital for a mental health evaluation.
