Say goodbye to the 90s. Cooler weather is moving in to Lawrence today, says Jennifer Schack, 6News meteorologist.
"The heat wave is over," Schack said.
A cold front was moving in this morning to northeast Kansas, bringing cooler temperatures, she said.
Today's high will climb to 74 degrees, with thick clouds moving in, she said The average high temperature for this date is 75 degrees. The record high was 94 degrees, set in 1963. Schack said Lawrence set a new record high on Wednesday when the temperature climbed to 96 degrees. The old record for that date was 95, set in 1975.
Today's winds will be from the north at 10 to 20 mph, Schack said.
At 6:45 a.m., Lawrence Municipal Airport's temperature was 67 degrees, the humidity was 71 percent and winds were out of the northwest at 9 mph.
The average low temperature for this date is 54 degrees. The record low was 32 degrees, set in 1964.
Overnight, the temperature will fall to 52 degrees by early Thursday morning. Thursday's high will be 72 degrees, she said.
Friday's morning low will be 53. Friday's afternoon high will climb to 82 with partly cloudy skies, she said.
