Saveur lauds city’s food scene

Lawrence’s food scene is highlighted in this month’s issue of “Saveur” magazine.

Lawrence is one of five “unsung burgs” when it comes to eating, according to the magazine.

“We searched for geographically diverse communities of fewer than 100,000 people,” the magazine wrote. “We sought places that had a thriving food culture – towns with locally supported markets, great restaurants of both the white-tablecloth and the roadside variety, and passionate producers.”

Lawrence establishments mentioned in the article include Free State Brewing Co., WheatFields Bakery, Pachamama’s, Pendleton’s Country Market, Tortas Jalisco, Amy’s Meats and the Lawrence Farmers Market.

Other cities listed in the feature are Apalachicola, Fla.; Ashland, Ore.; Burlington, Vt.; and Chapel Hill, N.C.
