A 22-year-old Lawrence man was injured in a two-vehicle accident Saturday evening that closed 31st Street for more than hour.

Lt. Kari Wempe, a spokeswoman for the Douglas County Sheriff's Office, said the man was driving his vehicle to the east after 6 p.m. when it ran onto the shoulder for an unknown reason about 100 yards west of the intersection with Louisiana Street. When he over-corrected, the vehicle crossed the center line and struck a westbound vehicle almost head-on, Wempe said.

The driver of the westbound vehicle was not injured. A passenger in the injured driver's vehicle reportedly left the scene before officers arrived. Sheriff's officers are investigating whether alcohol was a factor in the accident, Wempe said.

Lawrence-Douglas County Fire & Medical workers took the injured driver to Lawrence Memorial Hospital, she said. Those involved were not identified, and officers continue to investigate, Wempe said.

And, as usual, we will never know, as they will never return to this article with an update.

I know, I read it twice and still didn't get it. I thought I needed to draw myself a picture. Anyway, we were on 31st after the accident and it didn't look pretty. Hopefully whoever is injured, will be fine.

Injured??

First it says "A 22 yr old man was *injured" then it goes on to say "The man was driving his vehicle to the east".

Then the article says, "The driver of the eastbound vehicle was not injured." It also states, "A passenger in the injured driver's vehicle reportedly left the scene before officers arrived.

Last but not least, the article says "Sheriff's officers are investigating whether alcohol was a factor in the accident, Wempe said.

Alcohol involved? From who, the officer who gave this account of the accident or the reporter who wrote this article?
