A fire in the office of the Westminster Inn and Suites, 2525 W. Sixth St., shut down traffic along Sixth street this evening as firefighters battled the blaze.

The fire started around 6:30 p.m. tonight in the attic space just above the office in the two-story motel, manager Shane Patel said. He though the fire was likely electrical, as flames rose from behind a lighted “motel” sign.

Part of the sign eventually fell to the ground as firefighters pumped water on the roof of the office.

The fire was brought quickly under control, and no one was injured. A few groups of hotel customers were forced out of their rooms, and it was unclear whether fire officials would deem the building safe after they conducted their investigation.
