Herbert Edwin Neale, 77, accidentally drove his car into the Dollar General store in Baldwin City on Tuesday. There were no injuries.

A 77-year-old Overland Park man was uninjured after plowing his car into the front of the Dollar General Store on U.S. Highway 56 around noon today.

Herbert Edwin Neale was just going to park at Dollar General and go next door to the pharmacy when something went wrong. He blames it on his diabetes.

"I put my foot down. It just shot forward on me," said Neale. "I couldn't do anything about it."

Neale said he was in Baldwin City getting his laundry done when he went to the pharmacy. From England originally, Neale has lived in the United States for eight years.

"I've never done something so stupid in my life," he said. "I was scared I was going to hurt someone. I've been driving all over the world. I've been driving on the right side of the road for years."

Just like Neale, no one in the store at the time was injured. An ambulance crew responded and checked Neale for injuries, but he wasn't transported to the hospital and watched as a wrecker removed his car from the store front.

Rather odd to see a Jaguar at a Dollar General...

Obligatory "old guy behind the wheel = dangerous" post.

"...to pick up medication."

One wonders, what medication exactly?

Eagle_aye 8 years, 4 months ago

he was planning to go next door to the pharmacy to pick up medication.

He wasn't "planning" to IN the Dollar Store :)

and, what is wrong with the pharmacies in O.P? Why did he drive all the way to Baldwin?

Talk about stupid! He could have gotten the prescription filled at WalMart for $4!

BTW, the old jags were very unreliable, the new Jags are supposed to be reliable as a Ford!

Yeah, but it was timely. I nearly got plowed into by what looked like a 16 year old a couple of hours ago...good thing I still have quick reflexes! LOL

Confrontation is correct, I'm just bored today....

Was he trying to find a Farmer's market?

I worked at a car dealership in college when an elderly lady drove her car through the glass on the showroom. Can't forget the sight of those salespeople jumping out of the way!!

I had the same thought, ihate...

And...um...Neale...driving on the right or left side of the road really has no bearing in a PARKING LOT.

I'm glad no one was hurt. I also hope, since the driver has (or HAD) a Jag that he also has money to pay for the damages that are sure to be billed to him.

Or, imagine the headline: "Man drives store into car!"
