KU vs. Florida, position by position

Point guard: Russell Robinson, 6-foot-1, jr. vs. Taurean Green, 6-foot, jr.: The key here is whether the KU guards can rattle Green with pressure and force him into turnovers, which plagued him early in his career. He averaged more than three turnovers per game last season, but committed just one turnover and had eight assists in the national title game and averaged one turnover in the first five games this season. Green’s father, Sidney Green, starred at UNLV and played in the NBA.

Advantage: Green.

Shooting guard: Mario Chalmers, 6-1, soph. vs. Lee Humphrey, 6-2, sr.: Leave Humphrey alone to help out elsewhere, and he’ll make that backfire. A career 43-percent shooter from beyond the arc, Humphrey averaged 17 points in the Final Four. Chalmers is quicker, can score in more ways than Humphrey and is a better defender. Chalmers and Humphrey both seem to like to take the big shot.

Advantage: Chalmers.

Small forward: Brandon Rush, 6-6, soph. vs. Corey Brewer, 6-9, jr.: NBA scouts will be watching this matchup closely. Long, lean and super athletic, Brewer is an excellent defender, Rush a versatile scorer and strong on-the-ball defender. Rush is 25 pounds heavier, which makes him a better rebounder, and is counted on to carry more of the scoring load for his team. If Rush is sloppy with his ballhandling, Brewer will make him pay.

Advantage: Rush.

Power forward: Julian Wright, 6-8, soph. vs. Joakim Noah, 6-11, jr.: Both players are exceptional passers, extremely athletic and still need work in developing their shooting touches. Son of retired tennis great Yannick Noah and 1978 Miss Sweden Cecilia Rodhe, Noah was MVP of the Final Four and Minneapolis Region. He set an NCAA tourney record with 29 blocked shots and a finals record with six against UCLA.

Advantage: Noah.

Center: Darrell Arthur, 6-9, fr. vs. Al Horford, 6-10, jr.: Horford, son of former NBA center Tito Horford, averaged a double-double in the NCAA Tournament last season, cementing his reputation as a player at his best in big games. He brought a field goal percentage of .750 into Las Vegas. Arthur has shown a knack for scoring, but the points never will be harder to come by than in tonight’s game against the quick, long Gators’ front line.

Advantage: Horford.
