A man wanted on drug-related and other warrants ran from Lawrence Police when officers saw him Thursday night walking in the 3300 block of West Eighth Street.

About 9:30 p.m. police launched a search of the area that covered several blocks. They also called for the assistance of a Kansas Highway Patrol helicopter that was in the area searching for a carjacking suspect along the Kansas Turnpike, Police Sgt. Susan Hadl.

The suspect had not been found at 11 p.m. and the search was called off.

The suspect’s name and other details about the warrants were not released. He started running through backyards and around houses in the residential neighborhood as soon as he saw police, Hadl said.
