Carjacking suspect leads police on chase

The Kansas Highway Patrol late Thursday night was searching east of Lawrence for a man suspected in a carjacking in Overland Park.

The suspect, driving a Jeep Cherokee, struck a car in the westbound lanes of the Kansas Turnpike at the service area about 5 miles east of Lawrence. Two passengers in that car, a man and a woman, were taken by ambulance to Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

The driver of the car, Allen Bradley, of Kansas City, Kan., said he did not think their injuries were serious. Their conditions were unavailable.

The Jeep continued westbound for a short distance before coming to a stop, KHP Master Sgt. John Kerby said. A helicopter was called to assist with a search for the suspect. No other details were available. The search was continuing about 11 p.m. but the helicopter had been called off.
