Bush rhetoric

To the editor:

It has been said that Americans have short memories. But there are a litany of statements by the current president, George W. Bush, that I can’t shake from mind. Chronologically, they are:

¢ “I do not believe in nation-building.”

¢ “We now know that Saddam Hussein has nuclear capability, as well as other weapons of mass destruction.”

¢ “I believe a free Iraq will be a peaceful Iraq.”

¢ “They will be in shock and awe (of our tremendous power in attack).”

¢ “Mission accomplished.”

¢ “Our plan is to stay the course. Those who say otherwise are helping the terrorists … defeatocrats and Rumsfeld will stay until the end of my term.”

¢ “Rumsfeld has resigned. I am open to other (bipartisan) suggestions, plans, and no one is happy with the situation in Iraq.”

It is expected that the Iraq Study Group will recommend a “consensus” strategy that will include an international conference for planning a peaceful Iraq. There were many who advocated this before the invasion of Iraq. However, our president wouldn’t listen to them. We can only hope that he will listen now and pray that other nations will be willing to join us in bringing about peace throughout the world.
