Services, offices close for holiday
Lawrence area government offices and services will be closed Thursday as the nation celebrates the Thanksgiving holiday.
And most city, county and state offices will be closed Friday as well. Federal offices will be closed Thursday but open Friday.
The Lawrence-Douglas County Health Department will be closed Thursday and Friday.
There are no classes at Kansas University today, Thursday or Friday but campus libraries will be open Friday.
The Lawrence Workforce Center will be closed Thursday and Friday.
Douglas County Senior Services Meals Program will not serve Thursday and Friday. Lawrence Meals on Wheels will not deliver meals Thursday.
The Lawrence Bus Co. will not operate today through Friday.
The Lawrence Transit System and the T Lift will not run Thursday but will return to a regular schedule Friday. During the arrival of Santa Claus at Weaver’s Department Store downtown at 6 p.m. Friday there may be delays and temporary reroutes.
Residential trash collection for Thursday will be moved to Friday. Friday and Saturday commercial collection will be completed as normal.
The Lawrence Public Library will be closed Thursday and reopen Friday.
The U.S. Post Office will be closed Thursday.
UPS and FedEx will not make deliveries Thursday.
The Lawrence Journal-World circulation department will be open until 10 a.m. Thursday. There will be no USA Today. The Journal-World offices will be open for regular business hours on Friday.
Kansas law mandates that liquor stores be closed Thursday.
