To quit smoking, you need a good reason or motivation. Health is a good reason but my motivation went past that. I began smoking shortly after high school graduation in 1968. It continued into my years in the Navy.
After serving in the Navy, I was able to attend the University of Kansas on the GI Bill. While attending KU, I met my motivation. I wanted to get to know a student better but she said she would not date anyone who smoked. I had a pack of Marlboros in my pocket and to impress her I pulled them out, crushed them and threw them away! That was in 1976 after having smoked for 8 years. I haven't smoked or had the urge to smoke in all of those years. My action worked because I married that student a year later in 1977. Motivation was my reason to kick the habit cold turkey. It worked for me!
