Unneeded ticket

To the editor:

I came home this evening to find a parking ticket on my husband’s car. My husband is a sergeant in the U.S. Army stationed at Fort Riley. He has served in Iraq and Afghanistan. He has seen his friends be blown up right beside him. He has had to decide whether he should shoot the enemy or be killed himself.

My husband is currently in California where they are training so he can serve his third tour of duty in the last 12 years. Because my husband is fighting for your freedom and his life, he was issued a ticket because his car was parked out on the street since he has been gone.

I would like to know what our town is coming to if we have nothing better to do than complain about a car parked on the street. I am sure he would much rather trade your easy life for his. How about you park your car on the street and risk being shot at or your limb ripped from your body? I’ll make sure your vehicle is ticketed when you return. It’s kind of like a “Welcome Home America” gift from the sad people here in Lawrence.
