Haskell defense
To the editor:
I was offended by Chuck Woodling’s recent column and his negative comments about Haskell Stadium. I don’t want to stoop to his level and exchange mean-spirited words because there is nothing to be gained.
However, my connection to and knowledge of Haskell demand I respond in some manner.
Maybe I can understand the comments about “the absence of restrooms or concessions on the south side, most of the parking on grass.” OK, so some people are inconvenienced for a short period of time and perhaps they have to walk a little farther. Isn’t that a good thing considering the heart and obesity problems in our society today? And what’s the problem with parking on the grass? Didn’t we learn in basic biology that plants provide oxygen? If we pave everything over, what happens to our air supply?
On the other hand, I don’t understand Woodling’s need to be so derogatory in some of his other comments.
For one thing, I’d like to know just what exactly he means by “Goat Ranch.” As for the “overall feeling of gradual decay,” let me say this: Chuck, educate yourself a little bit about the stadium that has been here since 1926; the institution that has been here since 1884; and about the peoples and our relatives (I’m talking about the buffalo, plants, etc., in case you didn’t know) that have been here so much longer than you and your relatives.
If you knew a little bit more about all of these things, maybe you could appreciate life more … I know I do.

Lawrence
