Lawrence woman hurt in one-car crash on I-35

A Lawrence woman was injured Monday morning on Interstate 35 between Emporia and El Dorado when she lost control of her vehicle.

According to a Kansas Turnpike Authority report, Danette Jean Jacobs-Guinn, 39, looked down at her cell phone about 9:45 a.m. and her 2000 Lexus four-door veered onto the rumble strips while headed south, four miles north of the Cassoday exit.

Jacobs-Guinn tried to swerve back to her lane but lost control, and the vehicle struck a median barrier. She complained of head injuries and was taken by ambulance to Newman Regional Health in Emporia.

A hospital nursing supervisor said she was in stable condition and still being treated Monday afternoon. Jacobs-Guinn was not wearing her seat belt, according to the report.
