Douglas County results final, no big changes
The results of last week’s general election in Douglas County are final. While some vote tallies may have changed slightly, they did not affect the outcomes of any races.
County commissioners canvassed the ballots Monday and agreed to add 1,551 provisional ballots to the vote count. Provisional ballots are collected from voters when there are questions whether they are eligible to vote or if they are voting at the right location.
More than 35,300 people voted in the election, for a turnout of about 46 percent. Advance voting ballots amounted to about 18 percent of the vote.
County Clerk Jamie Shew said turnout was higher in precincts on the west side of Lawrence and Douglas County.
He thinks that was due to the heated race for the 2nd Congressional District, where Democrat Nancy Boyda defeated incumbent Republican Jim Ryun.
Shew said the lowest turnouts were in precincts where many Kansas University students live.
