Some area offices to close for holiday

A few area government offices and public services will be closed Friday in observance of Veterans Day, which is Saturday.

Douglas County District Court offices will be closed, but other Douglas County offices and city of Lawrence offices and services will be open. Ottawa and Eudora offices also will be open.

Offices in Tonganoxie, McLouth, De Soto, Franklin County, Jefferson County and Leavenworth County will be closed. Baldwin offices will be closed Monday and open Friday.

State offices will be closed, as will most federal offices.

Banks will be open Friday, but some will close Saturday. Branches at Peoples Bank, University National Bank, Central National Bank inside Wal-Mart, Commerce Bank and Capital City Bank inside Hy-Vee, 4000 W. Sixth St., will be open Saturday.

Lawrence Transit System buses will run, as will Lawrence Bus Co. buses.

The Lawrence Public Library, 707 Vt., will be open Friday and Saturday.

The post office will make mail deliveries and be open Friday but not Saturday. Express mail deliveries will be made both days. Federal Express and UPS will make regular deliveries.

The Lawrence Workforce Center, 2540 Iowa, Suite R, will be closed Friday.

Lawrence Meals on Wheels will deliver.

All activities and services through Douglas County Senior Services will operate as usual Friday, and facilities will be open.

The business office at the Journal-World will be open regular hours Friday. USA Today will be delivered Friday.
