Good service

To the editor:

As one who has been struggling with endless automated phone systems and endless links through Web sites to get the information I need from the various purveyors of Medicare Part D drug insurance plans, I really appreciate good, efficient service when I receive it. I want to thank Douglas County Clerk Jamie Shew for the manner in which his office dealt with its failure to mark a sufficient postage requirement on some mail-in ballots for Tuesday’s election. By publicizing the error made by his office and contacting the post office to request and arrange to pay for delivery of ballots with insufficient postage on them, he alerted me and many others to the problem and may have saved many votes from being lost.

When I phoned to be sure my ballot had been received, even though mailed with insufficient postage, I was quickly put through to a courteous individual who was able to confirm immediately that my ballot had been received. It is good to know that, at least in Douglas County, elections appear to be in the hands of people who know what they are doing. Thanks again, Mr. Shew.
