Practical legacy

To the editor:

So, Kansas University is falling apart, and for a mere $256 million things can be put back into tip-top shape.

I recently read in the Journal-World that the KU Endowment Association has over $1 billion, but donations were down last year since not enough alumni had died.

I realize that donations for various prestigious scholarships cannot be delivered to such mundane things as keeping the buildings from falling down.

Occasionally I read in the Journal-World where some KU alumnus has donated a few million to help further the cause of higher education. Just once I would like to read “KU alum P. Moore Frely donates $10 million to fix university toilets.”

To all you old Jayhawkers out there who just lost your basketball seats, I say why not designate some of that cash you leave behind to help fix the school’s plumbing? Now that would be a gift that keeps on giving and would certainly be appreciated by the entire KU student body, not to mention the Kansas taxpayer.

What greater legacy could you hope to leave behind??
