Habitat for Humanity honors volunteers

Lawrence Habitat for Humanity recently presented awards to Felix Karlin and Jill Shelley.

Karlin received the Tom Church Award for his contributions on work sites, including installation of telephone wiring and TV cable for homes at no cost. Last summer he was part of a Habitat crew from Lawrence that traveled to Mozambique to build a Habitat house.

The award is given in honor of the late Tom Church, a longtime Habitat volunteer from Baldwin.

Shelley received the John Gingerich Award for her contributions to the operation of the Habitat affiliate. Shelley began working on homes in 1997, and would become chairwoman of the Family Support Committee; this past year she served as president of Lawrence habitat for Humanity.

The award is given in honor of John Gingerich, who founded the Lawrence affiliate in 1989.
