Change needed

To the editor:

In the face of an illegal and ill-advised Iraq war gone ghastly, taking thousands upon thousands of American and Iraqi lives, seriously injuring thousands more, ruining the infrastructure of a country, costing billions of dollars, and now about to last as long as the U.S. involvement in World War II, what does the president give us? A diatribe against gay marriage (Oct. 30)! Perhaps meant to hearten the extremely conservative base he has abandoned, such posturing only reveals the moral anemia of this administration and the poverty of its social conscience.

What more damage can the president and his people inflict upon the body politic? Frankly, I don’t want to find out. It is high time to put the brakes on this administration and to seat constructive and challenging voices in both houses of Congress. Let’s do it.
