Course support

To the editor:

The report that Eagle Bend might finally break even is great news for the city of Lawrence and its taxpayers. In the past, many negative articles have been printed about this golf course.

Eagle Bend has made many nice decisions with the hiring of a new golf pro and getting rid of GPS on the carts. The taxpayers of Lawrence have had to kick in to keep this golf course afloat. Not all city patrons are golfers, but this is a little gold mine of the future. After bonds are paid off in the next 10 years, this will generate more profits than anything the city might have.

For the people that complain, look to the future and see the benefit of this beautiful course. With the golfing industry struggling in all areas we should be happy that it was only $150,000 last year that the city spent to support the course. It could have been much worse.

Thanks to the leaders of this city that recognize the future of its city. Keep up the great work.

Scott A. Beer,
