Counseling workers attend conferences

Three employees of Headquarters Counseling Center, Lawrence, recently participated in national conferences.

Tami Clark, volunteer coordinator, and Kelly Barnum, volunteer counselor, attended the 30th Annual Convening of Crisis Intervention Personnel Conference in Chicago, which provided crisis workers the opportunity to learn from other centers across the country. Topics included: lessons learned from Hurricane Katrina, collaborative crisis intervention, disaster planning for crisis centers, and stress management for crisis counselors.

Marcia Epstein, director, participated in the annual conference of the American Association of Suicidology in Seattle. Meeting and workshop topics included prevention, intervention and treatment for suicidal crises; support for those who’ve lost a loved one to suicide; and research on the effectiveness of related strategies.
