Department reports 3 more mumps cases

The Lawrence-Douglas County Health Department reported three more mumps cases on Thursday, bringing the county’s total to 259 confirmed or probable cases.

The Kansas Department of Health and Environment will update the state’s total today. On Tuesday, KDHE officials reported 674 confirmed or probable cases in the state during this year’s outbreak.

More than one-third of the state’s cases have originated in Douglas County, but the KDHE has identified mumps cases in 65 other counties. A majority of the Douglas County cases involved Kansas University students.
