Budget logic

To the editor:

After reading the various comments about the Second Street and McDonald Drive traffic signals and the lame follow-up excuses for the inability to get these working properly again, I have come to the conclusion where I just don’t believe that any form of logical argument will convey to those in control the real importance of getting these signals fixed. In lieu of any formal and/or scientific argument, this little budgetary analogy might help understand why.

A husband and wife have discovered a money problem. It goes like this. “Honey, we don’t seem to have enough money for food (sensor coil) tonight so we can’t eat supper as our food budget is depleted. But, hey, we have some money in the movie fund (roundabout) so let’s go to the movies instead.”
