Unsafe cycling

To the editor:

Question: Are bicyclists required to obey traffic laws? I wonder.

Sunday morning, May 21, I pulled up to the stop sign at 27th and Louisiana. That’s a busy corner, and I am used to looking left and right before proceeding. To my left, I noticed a bicyclist coming south on Louisiana. I had plenty of time, so I turned right and pulled out on Louisiana to the south. By the time I hit the STOP sign at 27th Terrace (South Junior High) and Louisiana, the female bicyclist met me, never stopped, and proceeded right on by. That was only one block!

I proceeded south on Louisiana to 31st Street and she whizzed by me through that busy section and went on south. I had to stop to avoid the east/west traffic. It’s a wonder there wasn’t a tragedy! Bicyclists are always complaining about their right-of-ways. Come on, folks.
