Taco Bell altercation leads to charges

Police arrested a Lawrence man early Monday for allegedly threatening a group of Taco Bell patrons with a gun after a fender-bender in the restaurant’s drive-through.

A 24-year-old Topeka woman told police she was in the drive-through about 2:20 a.m. at the Taco Bell at 1220 W. Sixth St. when she was rear-ended by another car.

She said the other driver, later identified by police as Michael J. Edwards, 22, Lawrence, was belligerent and angry, and that he pulled out a handgun after some of her male passengers got out to talk to him.

Edwards was arrested and charged Monday in District Court with three counts of aggravated assault.
