Assaults reported at trash receptacles
In two recent incidents, Lawrence residents say they were assaulted by people who were Dumpster-diving.
One incident happened about 2 a.m. Saturday at an apartment complex in the 1000 block of Emery Road. According to a report, two male Kansas University students told a group of four people – two females in a Pontiac and two men in a Ford F-150 – who were digging through Dumpsters to leave.
They said one of the men began yelling and ran toward them brandishing a tire iron. The students called police, who checked the area but didn’t find anyone matching the description.
In another incident, a 21-year-old female KU student told police she was taking items to a Dumpster about 11:45 a.m. Thursday in the 1100 block of Kentucky Street when she saw a woman going through the trash. The student said that, for no apparent reason, the woman said she was going to get a gun and pulled out what appeared to be a gun.
Police canvassed the area but didn’t find anyone who matched the description.
