JoAnn Smith, Kansas University vice provost and dean of continuing education, will lead the development of a comprehensive plan for summer session and intersession courses for KU.

Fred Pawlicki, associate director of the Lied Center, will assume the leadership role in continuing education as interim executive director effective immediately so Smith can focus her full-time efforts on improving summer session, which begins June 6.

Smith, whose title will remain vice provost, will draw on her experience at the University of Kentucky, where she had responsibility for the evening-weekend college and summer school, among other programs. She will work with all academic units to strengthen and expand similar offerings at KU.
