Commission considers zoning rule change

The Douglas County Commission today will consider a request to change county zoning regulations to allow for possible construction of mini-storage warehouses.

The request was made in a letter from Stanley C. Hernly of Hernly Associates Inc. of Lawrence.

In his letter Hernly said his firm had designed many of the storage facilities in the Lawrence and Kansas City area. The facilities typically include 30,000 to 80,000 square feet of enclosed storage units.

The Douglas County Zoning and Codes Department has recommended that the issue be forwarded to the Lawrence-Douglas County Planning Commission.

Commissioners meet at 8:30 a.m. at the Douglas County Courthouse, 1100 Mass.
