The 1981 Lawrence High seniors awards assembly seemed to mark the end of a tradition for graduating seniors. Gone were the confetti, the shots of water from squirt guns and other pranks that had marked, and marred, some past LHS assemblies. The emphasis fortunately was on decorum and positive achievements and officials were quite pleased with the results.

The Kansas University Endowment Association reported it was about to complete another year of record accomplishment. Officers reported that total assets were expected to pass the $100 million mark by the end of the current fiscal year. Assets totaled just more than $98 million, representing an increase of 20.3 percent from the figure for the preceding year.
