Mumps cases increase
Douglas County now has 228 confirmed or probable mumps cases for the year, the health department reported Friday.
Also Friday, the Kansas Department of Health and Environment announced 546 confirmed or probable cases statewide through Wednesday.
A majority of the cases in Douglas County involve KU students. As of Thursday, KU had 166 cases.
The outbreak hit several Midwestern states beginning in March. As of Wednesday, the Iowa Department of Public Health reported 1,674 cases in that state.
