Resident acquitted in September shooting

A jury on Thursday found a Lawrence man not guilty of intentionally shooting a woman in the face.

After deliberating much of the day Wednesday, jurors returned their verdict Thursday morning in the trial of Domonic A. Shepherd, 25. They acquitted him of attempted second-degree murder for the Sept. 18 shooting of 23-year-old Kelley Johnson, and also of aggravated assault against Johnson’s friend, Danielle Williams.

Prosecutors alleged Shepherd intentionally shot Johnson, then pointed a gun at Williams when they threatened to call police after Shepherd refused to leave Williams’ apartment in the 700 block of Comet Lane. Shepherd’s version was that Williams pulled her own gun on him after he shoved Johnson, and the gun went off accidentally during a struggle.
