Lied Center supporters displayed some hometown favoritism on Thursday when staff members revealed the center's acts for the 2006-07 season.
Dance artist and Lawrence native Karole Armitage's photo flashed on a projected screen as Lied Center executive director Tim Van Leer announced that Armitage's New York-based Armitage Gone! Dance company would perform on March 31, 2007, in her hometown. She also will be in town then for Dance Across Lawrence.
Cheers drowned out Van Leer's words for a few seconds. About 220 people had packed the second floor of the center for the short celebration to get a sneak peek of the new lineup.
Armitage's parents, Katie and Ken Armitage, said they were thrilled their daughter would be able to return home to perform.
"Of course we're excited. She began her dance career here in Lawrence at 19th and Massachusetts (streets)," Katie Armitage said.
Van Leer also announced other coming shows, including the Mozart Festival Opera in "Don Giovanni" and two performances by "Riverdance."
