Rude behavior

To the editor:

Lawrence is a great place to live. I just moved into a great neighborhood. The people seem nice, but it seems that everyone that has dogs allows their dog to "get rid of waste" in my yard as well as my neighbor's yard without cleaning up afterwards.

I don't understand how people can be so rude. My children cannot even run out in the yard to get in the car without the fear of getting dog feces on their shoes. I just think it is rude and inconsiderate for people to allow their dog to poop in someone else's yard. Why not let them poop in their own yard? Because then they will have to clean it up like I have to do every day when I get home. I can't believe the rudeness of some people. I guess since there is no law against it, people will do it.

Lawrence

Apparently it's not that great of a neighborhood after all.

Actually there is a law against it.

    Funny post righthinker...

I have to agree with the author. It is rude to allow your dog to poop on another's yard. My dog pooped on a sidewalk in front of a house, so I knocked on their door, asked for a paper towel and a plastic bag, cleaned up the poop, and carried it home to dispose. The people in the house were shocked (pleasantly) that I had cleaned it up. It's a simple matter of respect for others...not that difficult, really.

Try a Distemper warning sign in your yard.....works except for those dogs that can't read.

righthinker - yes, baby talk to my two Yorks is very appropriate. (The husband even does it!) Thank goodness the poopie is very small and firm!!!

I live right next to a cow pasture in the sticks. Occasssionally, one of the heifers will get loose and drop a huge frisbee size patty in my yard. I have to wait a few days for it to solidify before its fling-able.

Maybe Rebecca can throw the "waste" on the sidewalk. That way, the next time the people walk their dogs, they might step in the "waste". Eventually, they'll go somewhere else.

While not in disagreement with the author, perhaps a tasteful white picket fence would be in order to fend off the wolves.

Yup, gotta do the poop patrol...

My brother-in-law used to scoop up the poo in his yard with a shovel and go dump it on the neighbors porch. Of course, he knew which house the offending dog lived in. He wasn't just dumping poo on random porches.

If it got as bad as it seems to be for the author, I'd probably take a morning and sit just out of sight at a window with a book and keep an eye on the yard. If the dogs are running loose, call animal control and have them taken to the pound. If the owners are with them, open the front door and politely explain that you'd like them to either clean up after their dogs or not use your yard, and remind them that it's against the law to do what they're doing. The picket fence might be an idea, just along the sidewalk, too.

Of course, if it's *really* serious, get pictures of the repeat offenders and distribute them on a flyer throughout the neighborhood as Consistent Fecal Offenders.

I suggest kindly greeting the offending dog's owner, politely ask their address, and then let them know you will be by layer to reciprocate. Bring the newspaper and leave a pile.

Gee! I hope the dogs don't start complaining about what we do to the environment. I think the dogs would win that argument.

Dogs owners. If you would make two or three laps of your own yard, your dog will probably be stimulated enough to go there. Then proceed on your walk for excercise! Problem solved.

Your dog is walking/running along beside you thinking, "I gotta go, I gotta go, stop stop stop" Then they desperately yank you to a stop. It would be much more pleasant for them to take a nice stroll in your own yard to do what they need, more privacy for them too. They know what they need to do, give them a chance.
