To the editor:

Well, the Wal-Mart thugs have won again. No surprise, really. They attacked Lawrence with a vengeance, hurling every “legal” weapon they could find or manufacture. Now we are expected to believe that they will be good neighbors by building something pretty – this promise from the same company that twists the law by insisting they are a “variety” store not a department store, this from the company that promised to be a good neighbor on the south side of town yet trash surrounds the building on all sides, this from a company that routinely talks out of both sides of their mouths.

Wal-Mart brings nothing of value to the west side of Lawrence, just like they brought nothing to the south side. The thugs have won again – no surprise, really.
