Kline to speak on corporate probes and politics
Kansas Atty. Gen. Phill Kline will speak Monday at Kansas University on the topic of how state prosecutors should ethically handle publicity about corporate investigations.
“Trial by News Conference: The Politics of Corporate Investigations,” is the title of Kline’s talk, which he will deliver at 7:30 p.m. Monday at the Dole Institute of Politics on KU’s west campus.
The event is co-sponsored by the KU College Republicans and is open to the public.
Bill Lacy, institute director, said Kline is taking a different approach to corporate investigations than some of his peers across the country.
Kline’s “view is that you don’t announce investigations of alleged corporate wrongdoing unless absolutely essential. This puts him in a different camp from attorneys general like New York’s Eliot Spitzer, who holds a news conference first and investigates or settles later,” Lacy said.
