Close borders

To the editor:

Is the illegal immigration drain on tax funds recognized in Lawrence?

Other than possible terrorists, millions of illegals coming across our borders should be seen as refugees. They come from conditions of poverty and pollution where freedom to unionize is suppressed. Suppressed in factories that our free-trade-loving politicians help set up.

Free trade with people who do not enjoy our laws of freedom is not fair trade? Yet, free trade agreements involving oppressed foreign labor have been passed by Congress.

With thousands of illegals coming every day, why hasn’t Congress forced the closing of our national borders? Instead, why is Congress giving welfare to those who have broken the law? Law-breaking noncitizens feeding at our expense? (Such as free medical, free food, free transport, free schooling.)

Why is Congress even thinking of amnesty (also known as “guest worker”) for those who have broken the law without considering fixing the cause of the problem? With welfare and amnesty, isn’t Congress actually encouraging the breakdown of our law and order? Why doesn’t Congress just cancel all the welfare that has become the magnet bringing and keeping illegals here?

Why don’t our congressman, Jim Ryun, and our U.S. senators, Pat Roberts and Sam Brownback, just stand up and explain how and when Congress will fix the mess that Congress created? And explain why Congress refuses to use the power of the purse to stop the illegals at the border (build a fence) and also cut off the welfare?
