March of Dimes event needs volunteers

The 38th Annual March of Dimes WalkAmerica fundraising event will take place on May 5 at Clinton State Park. Volunteers are needed to assist with parking, registration, along the route and with the event picnic. The March of Dimes’ mission is the prevention of premature births, birth defects and infant mortality. Volunteer opportunities are also available year-round in the local chapter office. Immediate volunteer needs

¢ The Lawrence Meals on Wheels program seeks volunteer drivers to assist with meal delivery for a recently established delivery route during the summer to substitute for students and other volunteers. Meals on Wheels provides hot and nutritious meals to the homebound elderly and individuals with disabilities in the Lawrence area. Driver positions are available each day of the week to pick up and deliver meals. Each meal route takes approximately 45 minutes to deliver. ¢ Three volunteers are needed to assist with set-up and band set changes for a concert at Stu’s Midtown Tavern on May 12 to benefit Hospice Care in Douglas County. Volunteers will help from 5 p.m. until midnight with the event, which features bands Outlaw Jake, The Volunteers, Percival and Tripp Algiers. ¢ Volunteers are needed for the 2006 USA Cycling Collegiate Road Nationals, taking place in Lawrence from May 12 through 14. Volunteers will be needed for a variety of positions, including set-up crew, a tear-down crew and road crossing monitors.
