Daschle to speak at Dole Lecture

Former U.S. Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle, 58, will deliver the third annual Dole Lecture at 8 p.m. April 10 at Kansas University’s Lied Center.

The Dole Institute of Politics announced on Thursday the selection of the South Dakota Democrat, who served as leader from 1994 to 2005. Bob Dole led Senate Republicans from 1985 to 1996.

Dole and Daschle are now colleagues in the Washington, D.C., lobbying firm Alston & Bird. Daschle is also a visiting professor at Georgetown University’s Georgetown Public Policy Institute and a distinguished senior fellow at the Center for American Progress.

His wife, Linda Hall Daschle, grew up in Kansas and won the Miss Kansas title in 1976.

Free tickets are available at the Lied Center box office between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. on weekdays or by calling 864-2787. Tickets are also available in the Student Union Activities office in the Kansas Union and the Murphy Hall ticket office.

Former President Bill Clinton delivered the first Dole Lecture in 2004, and Bob Dole spoke in 2005.
