Bush mistake
To the editor:
In his March 22 letter, Dennis Saleebey asked, “For the president of the United States, which of the following could be an impeachable offense?”, then listed several real or perceived offenses committed by President Bush and one committed by Bill Clinton.
Following Mr. Saleebey’s letter another writer wrote in to mention five real or perceived offenses that he felt should be held against Bill Clinton, but reading through those it appears all are instead points in former President Clinton’s favor as he avoided deposing the Iraqi president while maintaining economic sanctions.
Today, we can clearly see the wisdom of both former President George H.W. Bush and that of Bill Clinton, as deposing the leader of Iraq has led to thousands of American deaths and loss of vast amounts of both American treasure and American prestige abroad while the war in Iraq rages on with no end in sight. George W. Bush misled the American people and played right into the hands of those who would destroy us.
Of course the majority of us are waking up to the reality of the situation Bush’s war and its aftermath have dragged the American people into, and currently his popularity is steadily plummeting, but that doesn’t fix the situation in Iraq. Censuring President Bush and pulling out of Iraq would show the world we can admit our mistakes.
