Leavenworth leader plans Lawrence visit

The commander of the Combined Arms Center at Fort Leavenworth, Lt. Gen. David Petraeus, will be in Lawrence today to recognize local officials for their help training officers.

The fort’s School of Command Preparation brings officers to Lawrence as part of tactical training. They meet with community officials and undergo mock media interviews to prepare them for real-world events they’ll experience in deployments overseas.

Petraeus will present awards to officials from the city, county and Kansas University for their cooperation with the program. The event is not open to the public.
