Work on KU gateway to begin, affect traffic

Kansas University’s traffic control booth near 13th Street and Oread Avenue will be torn down as construction starts on the Docking Family Gateway.

A temporary booth, near 14th Street and Jayhawk Boulevard, will open today and remain for most of the summer.

Demolition of the current booth will begin Wednesday, and construction of the Docking Family Gateway is scheduled to begin April 3.

Some rerouting of traffic will begin April 3. Southbound traffic on Jayhawk Boulevard will remain open. Northbound traffic on Jayhawk Boulevard will be detoured to the east at 14th Street, with the exception of buses. Buses will be allowed to continue north but will be flagged through the construction site. Some delays are expected.

The Gateway will feature a fountain with vertical jets of water in a round plaza with landscaping and stone signage.
