To the editor:

The contrast between two items that appeared in Wednesday’s Journal-World caught my attention.

Mike Hoeflich’s column, “Coach, team deserve praise,” spoke of everything that intercollegiate athletics should be about.

Gary Watson’s letter to the editor, “Coaching failure,” reflected everything that is wrong with intercollegiate athletics.

The former spoke of integrity and teaching academic and social values. The latter talked of “winning at any cost.”
