Straight talk
To the editor:
Hooray to Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., for recently standing up to her husband, former President Bill Clinton, on the attempt by an Arab company to purchase managing rights of six U.S. ports.
During President Clinton’s tenure as U.S. president, the ports in question had been managed by foreign companies. That was then. Today we are at war!
In a recent speech by President Bush, in an effort to promote the takeover of the six ports by the United Arab Emirates, the president stated, “You gotta trust me on this.” Why should the American people trust the president on anything?
The president’s legacy will go down in history as a legacy based on broken promises, arrogance of power and the spending of billions of dollars in an attempt to stuff democracy down the throat of a nation that really doesn’t care about democracy.
Sen. Clinton’s “straight talk” is like a breath of fresh air amid the bloviating of the Bush administration.
